A new chapter for Sienna after two years of cancer treatment

A CHIPPING Sodbury girl who was diagnosed with leukaemia aged two has finished two years of gruelling treatment.

Four-year-old Sienna Mullins (above) rang the bell at Bristol Children’s Hospital to mark the end of her chemotherapy treatment in the summer.

She has now started school in the town.

Mum Jo told the Voice: “Sienna is doing very well.

“She finished treatment at the end of May and rang the bell in June, which was a fantastic for us and the family.”

Sienna was diagnosed with Leukaemia in April 2024 after Jo and husband Joe noticed she had become unwell during a family holiday to Disneyland to celebrate Joe’s 40th birthday.

At first she was thought to have a viral infection but as her family discovered unusual spots and bruising they took her to hospital, where the blood cancer was diagnosed.

She initially spent two weeks in hospital after her diagnosis and underwent urgent treatment.

Intensive chemotherapy

Following this, Sienna completed six months of “very intense” chemotherapy treatment, with a nurse coming four times a week to inject her.

She also needed four to five visits to the hospital every month for lumbar punctures and general anaesthetic for extra chemotherapy for her brain and spine.

Jo said: “The hospital still monitors her monthly for now, and will continue to keep a close eye, but we feel like life has resumed and she can start a new chapter.”

Sienna’s battle inspired a huge fundraising effort for Bristol Children’s Hospital.

Hollie Dennis and Clare Saphier, the owners of First Steps Nursery, which she was attending, decided to raise funds for the Grand Appeal and set up a JustGiving page that raised more than £13,000.

Sienna and her family were also supported by Young Lives vs Cancer, and she was the guest of honour at last year’s Winterbourne Down Village Carnival, which raised £5,700 for the charity.

Another event, Sienna’s Vile Mile at Chipping Sodbury Football Club, raised £2,300 in 2024.

Jo said: “We would like to thank the local community for fundraising and their support, especially First Steps Nursery in Chipping Sodbury.”
