A WOMAN has died after the car she was in hit a wall at Westerleigh, near Yate.
Police were called to Westerleigh Road at around 3am today.
A police spokesperson said: “Sadly, a woman in her 20s was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Our thoughts are with her family at this difficult time. We will be offering them support from a specially-trained family liaison officer.”
The road was closed in both directions at the junctions with Nibley Lane, Besom Lane, Shorthill Road and the railway bridge and drivers were being are advised to seek alternative routes between Yate and Westerleigh.
The road is expected to be closed all day while the police investigation continues.
South Gloucestershire Council’s streetcare team said: “Police will be advising us when the road closure can be taken off.”
No other information about the incident had been released this morning.
