Boy taken to hospital after being attacked with ‘pepper spray’ by car driver in Yate

POLICE are trying to trace a man who sprayed a group of boys with a pepper spray-like substance in Yate on Boxing Day – leaving one of them in need of hospital treatment.

The incident happened shortly before 7.30pm near the Shell petrol station on Westerleigh Road (pictured above).

An Avon & Somerset police spokesperson said: “Six boys, aged between 12 and 15, were walking along the road when a car pulled up.

“A man got out and sprayed an irritant substance, similar to pepper spray, at the boys before driving off at speed.

“One of the boys went to hospital and was discharged after treatment to skin irritation, while another was cared for at home.

“Officers searched the area at the time but were unable to locate the suspect vehicle.”

At present police do not have a description of the man or the car involved.

Officers are appealing for anyone who thinks they saw what happened or might have CCTV or dashcam footage to contact them.
