Two men arrested after armed police pursuit

TWO men were arrested after a police pursuit near Chipping Sodbury.

Avon & Somerset police say armed officers were called to a field off Old Down Road, near Badminton, shortly before 5pm on Thursday after a member of the public reported seeing a man “carrying a firearm”.

A police helicopter was also called in and a vehicle was chased to nearby Tormarton, where it was stopped and two men were arrested.

A police spokesperson said both men, who are from South Wales, were arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

One of the men, who is in his early 20s, was also arrested on suspicion of failing to stop for police and dangerous driving.

He has since been released under investigation.

The other man, who is in his late teens, was released without charge.

The police spokesperson said: “Searches were carried out by officers, but no weapon was found, and the investigation is ongoing.”
