Community centre closes as town council takes over to ‘safeguard’ its future

YATE Community Centre has temporarily closed, it has been announced.

Yate Town Council issued a statement on social media confirming the closure.

It says it took control of the centre in Station Road on Tuesday “to safeguard the building for continued and future community use”.

Councillor Chris Willmore said: “We are working with Yate Community Association to get it back into use as soon as possible.

“Yate Town Council has committed to ensuring the Community Centre building continues to serve residents as a space for local people and our aim, by working together, is to get the best outcome for our community.”

The town council has asked anyone with a hire booking for the centre to get in contact “as soon as possible”, saying it “will make every effort to accommodate bookings and ensure continuity for groups and individuals who use and rely on the facility”.

The building, which stands next to the council-run Yate Parish Hall, was run by Yate Community Association but the town council says future bookings and payments must now be made through its offices, and it will hold funds “whilst the position is sorted out”.

Yate Community Association has not issued a statement so far.

People with bookings at the centre are being asked to contact the town council on 01454 866251 or email bookings@yatetowncouncil.gov.uk

Anyone with possessions in the building they want to recover is being asked to call 01454 866506 or email info@yatetowncouncil.gov.uk with proof of ownership.
